Los Angeles County firefighters responded to blaze in the 2500 block of Cole Place at 6:54 a.m. The fire was declared a knockdown in 5 minutes.
Authorities say that a passerby saw smoke coming from the house and alerted the residents inside the home. After they exited the home, they determined that the smoke was coming from an add-on room toward the back of the house.
When firefighters arrived, they were told there was someone inside the add-on room. Crews pulled the body of an 82-year-old Hispanic man out of the room and pronounced him dead at the scene.
No one else was injured in the incident.
Authorities say the preliminary investigation indicates that the fire was an accident. Anyone with information is urged to call the Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
