Firefighters get upper hand on Santa Paula fire; 45 acres burned

SANTA PAULA, Calif.

Authorities say the fire, which broke out around 1:30 p.m. Thursday, is now 50 percent contained.

It's believed to have started in a grove of avocado trees, but the cause is still unknown.

The blaze has burned about 45 acres, but firefighters made significant progress overnight, as the wind died down and temperatures dropped.

No structures were affected and no injuries have been reported.
