Kris Humphries has filed for an annulment of his 72-day marriage to Kim Kardashian, citing fraud.

In the legal documents filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday, the basketball player checked the box reading "nullity of voidable marriage," citing the basis as being "fraud."

The documents also stated that Humphries would seek a legal separation instead of a divorce, if his annulment is denied.

In order to be granted an annulment, the court would need to find that the marriage was invalid. Reasons may include fraud, bigamy, incest, force, or if the couple is under the age of consent.

"It is true he filed for legal separation and nullity of marriage," Humphries' rep confirmed to OnTheRedCarpet.com.

The athlete's representative also slammed Star magazine's cover story, which claimed Humphries was gay, calling it "completely false."

Kardashian filed for divorce at a Los Angeles court, 72 days after getting married on August 20 in Montecito, California. The pair signed a prenuptial agreement which allowed Kardashian to keep all money earned during their short marriage.

Humphries should manage just fine though, with the NBA lockout ending and his recent endorsement deal with Sector watches which will reportedly earn him $150,000.

Since Kardashian filed for divorce, Humphries has kept quiet about his personal life with the exception of a single statement he made in regards to the divorce.

"I'm committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents. I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce ... I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it work," Humphries said in a statement at the time.

Humphries acknowledged that he was going through a "very difficult time in my life" at a press conference on November 17.

Kardashian's E! network reality series "Kourtney & Kim Take New York" premiered on Sunday to record ratings and revealed early troubles Humphries and Kardashian's marriage.

"He fell in love with me and I fell in love with him and now my feelings have changed," the 31-year-old Kardashian sister said. "I failed at this - you don't think I feel bad?"

The 26-year-old athlete also caused an argument when he suggested to Kim that the two move to his native Minnesota, but Kim believed her career would suffer. Humphries, however, felt that won't be an issue.

"By the time you have kids, no one will probably care about you," Humphries told his then-wife.

The wedding of Kardashian and Humphries took place on August 20 under tight security at a $20 million estate near Santa Barbara. More than 500 people, including celebrities, attended the highly-publicized event.

Kardashian and Humphries began dating in late 2010 and announced their engagement in May. The reality star was previously married to music producer Damon Thomas. The two wed in 2000, when she was 19 years old, and divorced in 2004.

Kardashian cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split. She and Humphries have no children.
