Pasadena is re-evaluating its approach to taking care of trees following a windstorm that destroyed more than 1,000 trees.

Damage estimates are nearing $30 million.

Several officials tell the Pasadena Star-News they need to re-examine pruning policies and which species should replace the fallen trees.

For instance, several of the toppled trees were Chinese elms, which are more brittle than other trees and more vulnerable to wind.
