Congress enjoys income jump while voters' net worth falls

December 27, 2011 12:00:00 AM PST
The nation's lawmakers have gotten richer during the same time that voters have been losing ground financially.

A New York Times analysis found that between 2004 and 2010, members of Congress enjoyed a 15-percent jump in income, while Americans saw their net worth fall by 8 percent.

Nearly half of the nation's lawmakers are worth at least $1 million; 10 are estimated to be worth $100 million or more.

The median net worth for members of Congress is $913,000 and climbing.
