An icon of the surfing world is dead: Sean Collins was 59 years old.

Collins created Surfline, a phone and Internet wave-tracking service.

Surfline started as a telephone service, but evolved into a website that forecasts surf conditions around the globe.

Collins was inducted into the Huntington Beach Surfers' Hall of Fame in 2008.

Surfers and friends say he single-handedly changed the world of surfing.

Collins leaves behind a wife and two sons.
