Snoop Dogg was arrested on January 7 on a minor drug charge in Texas after a border agent found several joints on his tour bus.

Hudspeth County sheriff's office said in a statement to the Associated Press that the 40-year-old rapper, whose name is Calvin Broadus, was arrested at the Sierra Blanca highway checkpoint and cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor typical in cases involving small amounts of marijuana.

If Snoop Dogg chooses to plea no contest in the case, which is what typically happens in such cases according to a local judge, he must pay a mailed-in fine of up to $500.

Snoop Dogg's spokespeople did not comment on the matter.

The rapper has been arrested for drug possession in the past. In 2006 he was arrested twice -- once at the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank for firearm and drug possession charges and once after performing on "The Tonight Show" for possession of marijuana and a firearm. He was also arrested in Stockholm, Sweden in 2007 after police officials claimed he smelled of marijuana but was later released due to lack of evidence.

The checkpoint is the same one where Willie Nelson was arrested on November 26 2010, after six ounces of marijuana was found aboard his tour bus. The singer was arrested along with three others and held briefly for a $2,500 bond before being released.

Nelson and Snoop Dogg once collaborated on a song called "My Medicine" in 2008.

Earlier this month the rapper appeared on "The Price Is Right" where he earned $72,585 for his charity, The Snoop Youth Football League, which allows inner-city kids the chance to play football.
