The first shooting happened at Broadway and 47th Street around 4:15 Sunday morning. A 49-year old man was shot in the leg and taken to the hospital.
About an hour later and two blocks away, a second shooting happened. A 23-year old man was killed. Police say he had a lot friends who were gang members, but don't yet know if he was also in a gang.
It is believed the two shootings are not related. However authorities said shootings takes an emotional toll on the community.
"All of these kids have a mom, a dad, a family member, no matter what gang they're from," said Los Angeles Police Capt. Jorge Rodriguez. "And regardless of the shooting, the retaliation, it's a killing of a human being, regardless, and there will always be someone who gets affected."
Police do not believe the two shootings are related. They are asking anyone with information to call the anonymous tip line at 877-LAPD-24-7.
