Police responding to a 911 call about 7 a.m. discovered the body of the woman in a house in the 1000 block of Ynez Avenue in Monterey Park.
The victim, 39-year-old Chenyan Bao, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bao's husband, 41-year-old Hongxin Liu, was home at the time. Detectives questioned him and determined he had murdered her.
He was booked on a murder charge and was being held on $1 million bail.
Detectives said there were no obvious signs of how she died.
Detectives said the couple has a 2-year-old child who is in the custody of Dept. of Family and Children Services.
Police said they have been called to the home before but would not say why.
The couple, from China, was renting out a room at the house where the killing allegedly took place.
Authorities said at least four people lived in the house.
A man who lives there, Kimi Gu, said he heard the couple arguing Saturday night.
"The female was very mad and the male was not that mad," Gu said.
