Veteran actor Gary Oldman gets 1st Oscar nod

LOS ANGELES

"It's very flattering, I mean, it's a little embarrassing," Oldman said.

Oldman is nominated in the best actor category for the spy thriller, "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy."

"I feel like I've been invited to the front cabin, and to be here with these performances and these actors, it's a great feeling," he said.

Oldman goes out of his comfort zone in "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," playing a middle-aged intelligence expert.

"I've been asked to come to work and play those roles where, it's a bit like standing at the foot of a mountain in the morning and looking at the peak and thinking, 'I've got to get there, and I've got to really, I've got to go to the reserve, and I've got to deliver,'" he said.

His long career in acting not only inspires rising stars but also influences them. He starred alongside Daniel Radcliffe in three "Harry Potter" films, and the young star is a huge admirer of Oldman's work.

"We have a good friendship, and he's been very kind, very sweet about me," Oldman said.
