Officers hurt in Occupy clash in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif.

The incident happened as the California Highway Patrol and Sacramento police officers were monitoring a rally by a pro-white group. As the officers escorted members of the South Africa Project to a parking garage, about 50 Occupy protesters began throwing cans and bottles and then confronted them.

A city police officer was injured when a member of the Occupy group jumped on him, and a CHP officer was injured after being struck by an object. The officers were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Three people were arrested on suspicion of disobeying an officer.

The clash followed a tense afternoon during which peace officers kept the two groups separated outside the Capitol.
