Norwalk babysitter rape suspect may have more victims

NORWALK, Calif.

Sheriff's deputies say Kevin Cady, 53, drugged and raped a 22-year-old woman he hired from an online babysitting service. A source familiar with the case told Eyewitness News the website Cady used was Sittercity.com.

The woman watched over Cady's children on Jan. 11. at his home on the 14100 block of Bayside Drive. Cady returned home from work early that day and offered the woman a drink. Investigators say the woman consumed the drink and immediately felt drowsy.

"She remembers waking up a short time later sometime after that, and the suspect was sexually assaulting her. Upon that discovery, she was able to flee the scene. She ran out of the residence to a 7-Eleven close by and contacted the sheriff's department for assistance," said Sgt. Rob Jones with the /*Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department*/.

Results of a toxicology test showed the woman had drugs in her system normally used in hospitals for surgical procedures. Authorities say that drug can cause drowsiness and memory loss. A source told Eyewitness News the drug was Midazolam, a heavy sedative.

Cady was arrested Feb. 29 and was released on Thursday to await his preliminary hearing.

Residents who live near Cady are surprised and also caution young women to be extra careful when posting babysitting services online.

"If he does it online from the get go, it sounds like it was kind of set up that way or something. Whether that thought was there from the beginning or not, I don't know," said Norwalk resident Mark Dunn.

Deputies are concerned there may be other victims. If you have any information that can help deputies with their investigation, you're urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Norwalk station at (562) 863-8711.
