Arturo Gonzalez, 38, of Ventura, was arrested after he and a second man entered the room of Richard Ellis at White Caps Motel around 6:50 a.m. Ellis was in his room waiting for a friend with the door ajar when Gonzalez and the other suspect entered the room. Gonzalez proceeded to ransack Ellis' belongings, including an undisclosed amount of cash, while the second man jumped on top of Ellis and began punching him in the head. Ellis sustained minor injuries to his head but required no medical treatment.
The two men took off on bicycles stolen from the room. Gonzalez was later identified and arrested, but the second man is on the loose. He is described only as a white male.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ventura Police Department at (805) 339-4416. Anyone who provides information leading to an arrest could receive a cash reward of up to $1,000.
