Russell Brand arrested in New Orleans for damage charge

British comedian Russell Brand was arrested in New Orleans on Thursday on a charge of simple criminal damage to property valued at $700.

Brand is in currently in New Orleans shooting a movie.

Brand is accused of hurling a photographer's iPhone through the window of a law firm on Monday. The photographer says he was taking pictures of the comedian with his phone from his car.

He addressed the incident in a Tweet, saying, "Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iPhone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory."

The comedian surrendered to authorities after police issued a misdemeanor arrest warrant on Thursday. He was released shortly after his arrest. Brand has reportedly offered to pay for the window.

Brand's film credits include "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "Get Him to the Greek." A judge recently granted him a divorce from singer Katy Perry.
