2 missing children found after father allegedly shot their mother in Studio City; Suspect arrested

STUDIO CITY, LOS ANGELES

After an hours-long search by authorities, the father and children were found in an apartment in Canoga Park. The man was taken into custody and the children were transported by ambulance to West Hills Hospital & Medical Center. The children appeared to be OK.

The woman was critically injured, but was listed in stable condition at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She was expected to survive.

Michael Green, 27, is suspected of shooting the woman, whose identity was not immediately released, just before 5 a.m. in a hotel room at the Sportsmen's Lodge in Studio City. Police said Green then fled the scene, although they were unsure of whether the children were with them at the time.

LAPD Sgt. Glen McNeil said the woman was "in and out of consciousness" at the hospital, but was able to provide investigators with some information.

Shortly after the woman was shot, Green's two children, a 1 1/2-year-old girl, Maaliyah Green, and a 6-month-old boy, Zyler Green, were discovered missing. The couple shared custody of the children.

A tip led police to the apartment in the 21700 block of Hart Street in Canoga Park. They had been surveying the apartment when they heard the scream of a child. That prompted police to move in and they found the man and children. Police said the suspect did not have a firearm with him at the time. Two other people at the apartment were also arrested for trying to impede with the investigation.

"It looks like they're going to be OK, but we're a little concerned because they have been with the suspect throughout the day," said LAPD Lt. Alan Hamilton. "We don't know if they've been fed, if they've been cared for. At this time it does not appear they were cared for throughout the day."

Green has been convicted in recent years of domestic violence on a spouse, his ex-girlfriend, and domestic battery.
