LAUSD changing sexual misconduct alert protocol

LOS ANGELES

According to a new policy, which was announced Thursday, parents will be notified within 72 hours if a teacher is removed from the classroom because of sexual misconduct allegations.

The district said it will extend the policy to teacher's aides, volunteers, coaches and custodial staff by the fall.

/*LAUSD*/ Superintendent /*John Deasy*/ said the only exception would be if the district was specifically advised by law enforcement not to release the information within the 72-hour time frame.

Deasy said the goal of the new policy is to strike a balance between letting law enforcement conduct investigations in a bias-free environment and notifying parents and guardians within a reasonable time frame.
