A former Santa Monica police officer will return as the city's new police chief.

City officials say Inglewood Police Chief Jacqueline Seabrooks will take over as the Santa Monica police chief next month. Seabrooks spent 25 years with the Santa Monica Police Department as an officer before heading to Inglewood in 2007.

Her appointment ends a three-month nationwide search.

Seabrooks will manage a department with 443 employees and a budget of more than $70 million.
