NM firefighters help sick colleague w/ $10K Mega Millions winnings

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.

Just one number off on last week's /*Mega Millions*/ jackpot, the firefighters won $10,000. The firefighters are donating the cash to a 24-year-old co-worker who has a brain tumor.

"When we found out we had won the lottery, it was decided almost immediately that we should try to fall in the footsteps of some of the golf tournaments and other things that have been done to generate some awareness," said Jed Hyland, a firefighter.

The tumor procedure will be done in Los Angeles and could cost $1 million. The firefighters say their donation is a drop in the bucket, but they hope it will inspire others.
