Explosive devices found in truck at South Bay Galleria; 2 Marines detained

Police said they first received a call from U.S. Marine Corps personnel around 8:10 p.m. Thursday about two Marines driving around with military explosives in a white Dodge pickup truck.

Authorities found the truck parked outside the Living Spaces Furniture store on the 1500 block of Hawthorne Boulevard. Devin Gajewski, 24, and Thomas Bazer, 20, were standing next to the vehicle. They were detained after admitting to having explosive devices in the truck.

Officials cordoned off the parking lot and evacuated several stores. A bomb squad found 10 military artillery simulator training aids inside the truck, authorities said.

The devices are commonly used during military training to get soldiers used to the sound of explosions. They were not likely to cause significant damage, officials said.

Both men are stationed at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms. It was not immediately known if they will face any charges.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) will continue to investigate the incident.
