Ventura attack may be gang related, police say

VENTURA, Calif.

Ventura police received a report of a shooting on Tuesday shortly before 7 p.m. at Ventura and McFarlane avenues. Responding officers found the victim, who was shot and stabbed multiple times. The victim and neighboring witnesses provided officers with suspect information.

Officers tracked down two suspects, identified as 30-year-old Ricardo Juarez of Ventura and 21-year-old Jesus Rodriguez of Oxnard.

Juarez and Rodriguez were booked into the Ventura County Jail after being treated for injuries they suffered while fleeing police. They were both booked on charges of attempted murder, gang street terrorism and resisting arrest. Juarez was also charged with a parole violation.

The victim was transported to Ventura County Medical Center for surgery. The identity of the victim was not released. Police only described him as a 37-year-old Ventura resident.

Investigators said the crime may be gang related.
