Bill banning violent fans at games in California shelved

LOS ANGELES

State lawmakers wanted to create a "ban list," similar to the No Fly List, that would have kept any fan deemed violent from attending professional sports games.

Assembly Bill 2464, introduced by State Assemblyman Mike Gatto (D-Los Angeles), came in response to the beating of San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow at Dodger Stadium, but it never made it out of committee.

Opponents were concerned about the planned publicizing of offenders' names on the Internet and a provision that would have forced all pro teams to provide witnesses of rowdy fans with rewards.
