The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has reportedly launched an internal affairs investigation into a secret clique within the department's elite gang unit.

According to a report in the Los Angeles Times, the group is called the Jump Out Boys and its members get more respect after being involved in a shooting.

Citing sources with knowledge on the investigation, the newspaper reports the probe was launched when someone discovered a pamphlet that described a code of conduct for members. It also said that deputies earn admission into the group through endorsement of its members.

According to sources, the investigation is still in its early stages and little is known about the group's behavior or its membership.
