Pursuit ends in Whittier; bank robbery suspect arrested

WHITTIER, Calif.

Police responded to a bank robbery call at First Financial Credit Union at 2530 E. Garvey Avenue in West Covina at 10:07 a.m. The suspect had presented a note demanding cash, and then fled the scene in a white van.

Officers spotted the van on the freeway and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped away. During the chase, the driver, identified as 39-year-old Jerry Lee Franklin, stopped for a woman who was seen waving her arms in the air. She eventually climbed through the driver's side window as the pursuit continued.

The pursuit ended at Whittier Boulevard and Mar Vista Street in the city of Whittier. The woman, identified as 36-year-old Yvonne Jeanette Farano, was taken into custody without further incident. She was expected to be charged with obstructing officers in the performance of their duties.

The male suspect refused to comply with officers' orders, so police used a K9 to assist. He was taken to a local hospital to be treated for a dog bite. He is expected to be charged with robbery, resisting arrest and felony evading.
