Meteor in CA, NV likely caused loud explosion

RENO, Nev.

Lisa Warren was out walking in Reno, Nev., when she saw a bright streak in the sky. She was able to snap pictures of the sighting.

The blast rattled nerves from Reno to Sacramento that morning.

Astronomers say the meteor likely broke up somewhere over the Sierras, southwest of Reno. They believe it came from an ongoing meteor shower left by a comet, which passes earth every year.
