Woman rams car into Boyle Heights building

BOYLE HEIGHTS, LOS ANGELES

Police said the woman was driving 60 to 80 mph when she hit the Enki Youth & Family Services building near Boyle and Pleasant avenues.

A witness said he was driving on Boyle Avenue when a driver sped past him, swerved onto the wrong side of the street, went over the curb and plowed into the building.

The witness and his friend stopped to help the woman, who was alone in the car. He said the driver was not receptive to the help.

"We had to dig her out. As we got to the car, she's trying to hide stuff and yelling and screaming about trying to get away," said the witness. "We went into the building. We helped her get out of her car and she tried to run. We had to detain her until the police got here."

The woman was transported to a nearby hospital as a precaution but suffered no injuries. She was not arrested. It was not immediately known if the woman had a medical condition that may have led to the crash or if she was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

the building has been red-tagged until inspectors can determine it's safe enough to enter.
