Granada Hills Charter High wins 2nd National Academic Decathlon

LOS ANGELES

"Now that we've finally gone all the way, it's a relief, and it's really great to be back home," said team member Kimberly Ly.

The nine-member team earned the highest score in the competition's history, beating out 33 other high schools in Albuquerque, NM.

"My thought last year [was] no one can top this," said team member Hamidah Mahmud. "But this year we kinda did, and we kinda broke a national record, so it feels really great."

The title comes on the heels of the team's first place title in the state competition and the Los Angeles Unified School District contest.

Granada Hill Charter High is planning a big celebration for the team on Monday morning.
