Victor Valley deputies arrested 68 suspects and seized about 63 roosters and over $20,000 in cash from a cockfighting ring in Hesperia on Saturday.

Deputies received an anonymous tip about a cockfight taking place around 10 a.m. at a barn in the 14000 block of Summit Valley Road. When deputies arrived, most attendees fled on foot, but authorities managed to arrest 68 of the 75 reported people.

About 63 roosters and over $20,000 in gambling cash were also seized. Deputies also discovered numerous items of evidence including several dead roosters on the ground and in barrels around the fighting arena.

Daniel Urena of La Puente was identified as the property owner and event organizer. All suspects were booked on charges including animal cruelty, cockfighting and animal fighting spectatorship.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the County Sheriff's Department Victor Valley Station at (760) 552-6800.
