'Avengers' looks to rule weekend box office

LOS ANGELES

Samuel L. Jackson is Nick Fury in "Marvel's The Avengers." He's the guy who helps assemble all the super heroes to help save the world from an evil force.

Fans assembled their own groups waiting to see the movie's midnight showing at the AMC 16 theater in Burbank.

"This is a dream come true," said fan Joshua Davis, who sported a Captain America costume. "I get to see all of my favorite characters up on screen, it's gonna be a dream come true, it really is."

"The Avengers" could break box office records by Monday. Estimates range from $140 million up. Ticket seller Fandango says many fans will see it more than once.

"According to a Fandango survey, 66 percent of the movie goers said that they were going to be coming back to the theater over the weekend, so we are going to see a lot of repeat viewing," said Melinda Petrow with Fandango.

And it's something that may sound incredible.

The AMC 16 in Burbank looked to fill all 16 screens at midnight.
