San Onofre nuclear plant may restart in June, says SoCal Edison

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif.

The plant has been shut down since January due to a radiation leak. The leak resulted from wear on steam generator tubes and officials say it poses no threat to the public.

Though an Edison official said the plant could be back up and running by June, federal regulators would have to approve first.

Orange County Congressman Dana Rohrabacher toured the facility on Thursday.

Rohrabacher said the plant's problems show that "light water" reactors are out of date and should be replaced by more efficient nuclear reactors.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
