The shooting happened near Clarendon and Templeton streets at about 12:45 a.m. Sunday.
Police have not arrested anyone, but they said there were several witnesses.
There are no signs that the shooting was gang-related.
The victim, who police described as a man in his 30s, was being treated at St. Francis Medical Center.
