The crash happened at around 11:40 p.m. near Ventura and Lankershim boulevards.
The Los Angeles Fire Department said a woman driving a blue pickup truck crashed into a utility pole and knocked down high voltage power lines. Officials said the Department of Water and Power was called to the scene.
Witnesses said a flash was visible for miles and a man walking by said he was almost hit by the truck before it burst into flames.
"I heard the loud screech getting louder, the crash of the truck hitting the pole and my impulse was to dive sideways because it was coming behind me. So I grabbed onto that fence like a squirrel, and I was just given a second chance at life," said witness Drusiano Solari.
The woman was in shock, but she was trying to get out of the truck. A good Samaritan rushed in to help her get away from the crash site.
