Serial killer Rodney Alcala to be extradited to New York

NEW YORK

It was unclear how soon Alcala would be brought to a Manhattan court.

He is currently awaiting execution in California for five strangling. In 2010, Alcala was sentenced to death for murdering a 12-year-old Huntington Beach girl and four Los Angeles County women in the late 1970s.

The 58-year-old also was charged with murdering two women in New York City in the 1970s.

If he is convicted in New York, it wouldn't impact his sentence in California. He will likely be sent back to California's death row since New York doesn't have a death penalty.
