2 suspects arrested after U-Haul pursuit

ONTARIO, Calif.

Authorities received a report of two men in a U-Haul box truck who had brandished a firearm in the 1200 block of West F Street at about 10:30 p.m. An officer spotted the truck in the area of D Street and Mountain Avenue, but when the officer pulled behind them, the U-Haul sped away.

The chase traveled through residential areas at speeds over 50 mph, police said, and at one point, the suspects accelerated toward a police vehicle in what appeared to be an attempt to ram the vehicle.

When the U-Haul crashed into a tree, the suspects fled on foot. The passenger, identified as 23-year-old Glenn Richard Sanchez of Ontario, was quickly taken into custody.

The driver, identified as 30-year-old parolee Joseph De Loza of Ontario, fled into a residential area. After a two-hour search, police found him in the yard of a residence in the 1400 block of West Flora Street.

Both suspects were booked at the West Valley Detention Center and charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, brandishing a weapon, burglary, criminal threats and felony evading.
