Male worker dead in rescue attempt from trench in Beverly Hills

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.

LAFD declared the man dead as a vacuum truck was en route to the trench at 1265 N. Benedict Canyon Drive in Beverly Hills. There were reportedly no signs of life in the early stages of the rescue. Benedict Canyon Drive remained blocked during the rescue and all traffic was diverted to Beverly Glen Boulevard.

The LAFD's Brian Humphrey said the man was completely covered with three feet of soil above his head. An investigation into the incident was ongoing.
