Tim Burton's 'Dark Shadows' pays tribute to TV show

Burton said the main reason he did the movie was because he had affection for the show.

"Even though there's humor in it, I actually tried really hard, with the acting style, and even the way it's shot, where people walk up into the room, close-ups you know, it was important to try to give the spirit of why I love the show so much," Burton said.

The stars of the movie know there is still a devoted fan base to this cult classic. Jonny Lee Miller said fans can take heart to the fact that Burton is a "Dark Shadows" fan.

"You know, he was one of the guys that runs home from school to watch it," Miller said.

Jonathan Frid, who played the role of the vampire Barnabas Collins in the television show, makes a brief appearance in the movie.

"It's like having the Pope visit the set," Burton said. "The cast members ... they're part of the inspiration of why you want to do something, so even for a moment, it's kind of a blessing of the set in a way."
