Lawndale house fire kills 1, injures 2 others

LAWNDALE, Calif.

Firefighters were called to the house fire in the 15200 block of Freeman Avenue shortly after 2 a.m. Officials said it took 25 firefighters about 10 minutes to knock down the blaze.

Deputies said a man believed to be about 60 years old was declared dead at the scene. Two others, a man and a woman, who tried to rescue the man were injured. They were transported to an area hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

There was no immediate damage report, but fire officials on scene said the front portion of the home was completely destroyed.

Sheriff's deputies and arson investigators were on scene to figure out the cause of the fire.
