Instead of choosing one proposed ordinance to support, the members decided to have the full 15-member City Council review and decide which draft to move forward with.
Committee members pointed out that the city has been trying to regulate how pot dispensaries are run for more than five years.
According to the city, there were between 700 to 800 pot dispensaries operating in Los Angeles.
The Public Safety Committee proposed two ordinances to review. One would ban medical marijuana businesses altogether. An exceptions would allow no more than three patients to grow pot as a cooperative for medical use.
The second proposed ordinance would limit the number of dispensaries allowed to operate in the city of Los Angeles as a business.
Growers and medical marijuana users urged the committee not to ban the plant's growth and sale.
