Detectives are unsure if it was a drive-by shooting, or if the shooter was on foot.
Nicole Zuniga and her 21-year-old boyfriend were standing outside Zuniga's home in the 3200 block of Verdugo Road Monday night when they were shot. Zuniga was declared dead at the scene. The young man was rushed to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Homicide investigators are looking for witnesses to come forward. They say there are gangs in the area, but it was unknown if the shooting was gang related.
