Jerry Lewis out of hospital after collapsing in New York

June 13, 2012 12:00:00 AM PDT
Comedian Jerry Lewis is back at his hotel after he collapsed at an event in New York on Tuesday night, his publicist said.

It happened just before Lewis was due to go on stage to honor actor Tom Cruise with the Friars Club Entertainment Icon Award.

Lewis was rushed to the hospital from the event but was later released. The 86-year-old was apparently suffering from low blood sugar after forgetting to eat and drink during his busy day.

In addition to presenting the prestigious award to Cruise, Lewis was also going to receive an award of his own - the Applause Award.

Rob Goldstone, publicist for The Friars Club, said the comedian is feeling much better Wednesday and that he wants to thank everyone for their good wishes.
