Cars Land opening, other weekend events, to clog Anaheim streets

ANAHEIM, Calif.

The new /*Cars Land*/ attraction at Disney's California Adventure opened Friday to the public. Officials say they freed up additional spaces to make room for extra park visitors. Nearby, the Anaheim Convention Center is also very busy with boys volleyball and an animation convention running all weekend.

At the Honda Center, nearly 19,000 people will make up a sellout crowd as the band One Direction performs on Sunday.

Thousands also expected to visit the nearby Grove, which is also next to Angel Stadium. The Angels face the Arizona Diamondbacks Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Transportation officials are warning people to expect heavy traffic. The city says it's doing what it can to make sure things move as smoothly as possible.

"We have a traffic management center, which we monitor the traffic at major intersections, which allows us to adjust the signal patterns to allow guests to flow much more smoothly in and out of the venues," said Ruth Ruiz, spokeswoman for the city of Anaheim.

Officials are also urging people to plan ahead, leave early and if possible take public transportation into Anaheim or carpool.

Disney is the parent company of ABC7.
