Ventura County fire size downgraded; containment expected Tuesday

VENTURA, Calif.

The fire was approximately 78 percent contained Monday at 10 p.m.

The fire was originally declared to have burned approximately 1,500 acres Saturday. Firefighters mapped the fire and determined it had burned fewer than 700 acres. The US Forest Service said 689 acres had burned by Monday afternoon.

The fire was burning near an off-road vehicle recreation area 10 miles southeast of Frazier Park in the Los Padres National Forest.

No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
