5-acre grass fire in Walnut knocked down

Fire crews battle a grass fire in Walnut on Monday, July 23, 2012.

Fire crews made quick work of a wildfire in Walnut that broke out on Monday near a sheriff's station.

Authorities responded to the fire near Valley Boulevard and Grand Avenue just before 4:30 p.m. At one point, flames were 300 yards from the Walnut Sheriff's Station.

The brush fire burned about five acres of grass. It was declared a knockdown in about 30 minutes.

Nearly 200 firefighters responded to the fire.
