IE 'Volcano Fire' flares up; 355 acres burned

MURRIETA, Calif.

The so-called "Volcano Fire" broke out Wednesday just west of Murrieta, near Clinton Keith and Tenaja roads at about 11:30 a.m. The fire destroyed one two-story home and caused injuries to three firefighters.

Full control of the blaze was expected by 8 p.m. Thursday, but a patch of unburned brush ignited, sending up a column of smoke visible from area homes and Interstate 15.

On Friday, the firefighting efforts will include 10 engines, 10 fire crews, one copter, two water tenders and three overhead.

About 355 acres have burned. Cal Fire investigators said they believe the fire was started by motorized brush-clearing equipment.
