OTRC: Robert Pattinson appears on 'The Daily Show,' Jon Stewart reportedly jokes about breakups

Robert Pattinson appeared on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" on August 13 to promote his upcoming film "Cosmopolis" and Jon Stewart tried to tip toe around the cheating scandal involving Pattinson's girlfriend and "Twilight" co-star Kristen Stewart.

"The Daily Show" host greeted Pattinson and offered him some Ben & Jerry's ice cream pretending to cheer him up, according to People magazine. Jon Stewart also reportedly joked they were "just two gals" talking about a breakup.

Jon Stewart, who did not directly mention the "Twilight" actress by name, also said breakups feel like the end of the world for young people, to which 26-year-old Pattinson reportedly said, "It is."

Other reports note that Pattinson later admitted his reply was a joke.

Kristen Stewart, 22, shocked fans of "Twilight" when she said via a press statement on July 25 that she had had a "momentary indiscretion," around the same time that paparazzi photos of her and Rupert Sanders, who directed her in the movie "Snow White and the Huntsman," kissing and embracing were published in Us Weekly magazine and posted online.

"I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected," Stewart had said at the time. "This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."

Pattinson is making his first round of media appearances since the scandal broke. After the interview at "The Daily Show," the actor appeared at the red carpet premiere for "Cosmopolis" at the Museum of Modern Art.

Pattinson will also appear on the ABC show "Good Morning America" on Wednesday, August 15.

In "Cosmopolis," the actor plays a billionaire who takes an unusual limo ride through Manhattan. The R-rated film hits select theaters in Los Angeles and New York on August 17.
