Robert Pattinson is shying away from his romantic vampire persona for the time being and concentrating on promoting his latest film, the psycho-sexual thriller "Cosmopolis," which he says contains "bizarre" sex scenes.

Pattinson, 26, stars as Eric Packer, a 28-year-old billionaire who rides across Manhattan in a stretch limo. His world is turned upside down as his life devolves into an odyssea with a cast of characters that start to tear his world apart. The film is directed by David Cronenberg and also features actresses Juliette Binoche and Sarah Gadon.

"Some of the scenes in this were, like, complicated acting scenes, like during a sex scene - so it's a very strange experience," Pattinson told the Associated Press at the film's premiere at New York's famed Museum of Modern Art on August 13. "One of the sex scenes especially wasn't even supposed to be a sex scene - it was just a dialogue scene."

"The morning of the scene we were shooting, David's like, 'You're actually having sex during the scene,'" he said. "So, I'm talking about my security guard, whilst having sex with a different security guard? It becomes this bizarre thing."

The premiere marked the actor's first public appearance since news broke last month that his "Twilight" co-star and girlfriend Kristen Stewart had cheated on him with Rupert Sanders, who directed her in "Snow White and the Huntsman."

The actor has not spoken about the scandal. On his recent television appearance on "The Daily Show," he remained mum about the subject even when host Jon Stewart joked they were "just two gals" talking about a break-up and presented the actor with Ben & Jerry's ice-cream.

On August 15, the actor also appeared on ABC's "Good Morning America" and also dodged questions about the cheating scandal and instead talked about ... cereal (read more).

Jodie Foster came to her former co-star Stewart's defense in an August 15 article written for The Daily Beast. She criticized the media coverage of the scandal and the current celebrity-crazed culture.

"I spent 5 months with Kristen Stewart on the set of 'Panic Room' mostly holed up in a space the size of a Manhattan closet," Foster said. "We talked and laughed for hours, sharing spontaneous mysteries and venting our boredom. I grew to love that kid."

Foster went on to recall a conversation she had at the time with Stewart's mother Jules Mann-Stewart, a script supervisor, in which Stewart's mother admitted she tried to talk then 11-year-old Kristen out of acting but that the young star on the rise said at the time that she "just loves it."
