Officials issued a warning for swimmers in the Santa Barbara area after a great white shark was spotted near Leadbetter Point on Tuesday.

Warning signs were posted along 14 different beaches there. Authorities said the shark came within 5 feet of some surfers.

The 7-foot-long shark showed its dorsal fin and raised its tail out of the water. Fortunately, it did not attack anyone.

Based on the surfers' description of the shark, authorities determined it was likely a great white.
