Santa Clarita man arrested for break-in, attempted rape

SANTA CLARITA, Calif.

A 19-year-old woman was asleep at 5:50 a.m. Saturday when she woke to noises in her residence on the 27500 block of Sierra Highway in Santa Clarita. She found a man in the living room.

The woman told the man to leave, and he punched her in the face. He then put her in a bear hug and told her he was going to rape her, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies.

The woman fought back and screamed for help as the suspect dragged her toward the bedroom. The suspect released her. She ran from the apartment and called for help. The suspect fled the scene.

Investigating deputies were able to identify the suspect. He was later arrested in Saugus.

Santa Clarita resident Adan Martinez, 34, was booked at the Santa Clarita Sheriff's Station on charges of attempted rape and burglary. He was held on $100,000 bail.

The victim was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.
