I-10 shooting investigation leads to closure, crash involving police cruiser

MID-CITY, LOS ANGELES

Authorities said it all started around 3:15 a.m. when a male passenger inside a red Ford Mustang was shot on the 10 Freeway at La Brea Avenue. He was struck in the neck and hospitalized in stable condition. Two other people in the car were not hurt. Investigators said the the shots were fired from a silver pickup truck.

Following the shooting, the driver of the red Mustang exited the freeway. Officials then shut down part of the freeway to investigate. As Los Angeles Police Department officers were diverting traffic at La Cienega Boulevard, their cruiser was hit by a possible drunk driver, investigators said. The officers had gotten out of the cruiser right before the crash, so they were not injured. The driver of that vehicle was arrested.

The freeway reopened shortly after 5 a.m. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information was asked to call police at (877) LAPD-24-7.
