Ryan Gosling is making moves to go behind the camera.

The 31-year-old actor will make his directorial debut with the film "How to Catch a Monster," which he wrote, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Gosling will also star in the movie.

Gosling's "Drive" co-star and "Mad Men" actress Christina Hendricks is also attached to star in the film. The movie will begin shooting in the spring of 2013.

According to the trade news outlet, the movie "weaves elements of fantasy noir with suspense to create a modern day fairytale set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city." Hendricks will star as a single mother named Billy, whose teenage son discovers a secret road leading underwater.

The rights to distribute "How to Catch a Monster" will be shopped to foreign buyers during the Toronto Film Festival next month, where Gosling will also be promoting the film "The Place Beyond the Pines." That film stars Bradley Cooper and Eva Mendes, who is rumored to be dating Gosling.

Gosling will next be seen in the film "Gangster Squad" with Sean Penn and his "Crazy, Stupid, Love" co-star Emma Stone. He was recently spotted in Los Angeles filming reshoots for the movie.

The release date was pushed back its studio Warner Bros. in light of the movie theater shooting at a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" in Aurora, Colorado on July 20, 2012. "Gangster Squad" contained a scene of the lead characters shooting movie theater patrons through a screen, which was shown in the film's trailer.

The movie was set to be released on September 7, but it will now be released in January 2013.
