The earthquake happened at 3:26 a.m. and was centered about 1 mile east northeast of Beverly Hills.
Eyewitness News received several calls from viewers in Beverly Hills, Brentwood, West Hollywood and Century City. They said they felt a sharp jolt, and the quake felt stronger than a 3.3.
"It felt just like the Northridge quake, it felt like 7.0," said Lola Brogin, a Century City resident who spoke to Eyewitness News in a telephone interview. "This was unbelievable. It felt like someone kicked my apartment house and then shook it, shook it, shook it like a subway train ride."
There were no early reports of damages or injuries, although the Beverly Hills Fire Department was out to check on the city as a precaution.
